On March 1st in Madgerburg, Arthur Abraham defeated Robert Stieglitz to reclaim his WBO Super Middleweight belt. Abraham won through a split decision (115:110, 114:111, 112:113). This was the third time the two boxers met, with one win going to each of them before their recent bout. At the end of the competition, Abraham gave his gloves to his promoter Wilfried Sauerland as a birthday gift.
Abraham noted: “It was a real battle up to the end. Stieglitz stated that he thinks he won, but he’s forgetting that he was on the ring floor two times. Of course, he was very active in the first few rounds but he couldn’t knock me out. It was nearly an equal competition. We struggled up to the end.”
34-year-old Abraham celebrated his 39th win out of 43 matches in the professional boxing ring. This match marked Stieglitz’s 50th time in the ring, but ended with a defeat and a loss of his belt.
Abraham will have to defend his title on May 1st. The venue and opponent will soon be announced.
