Unai Emery was sacked in dressing room by Spartak Moscow owner

Unai Emery was sacked as Spartak Moscow manager in the dressing room by the club’s owner following 5-1 home defeat to Dynamo Moscow in November 2012. Now when Emery has been appointed as Arsenal new manager, Spartak Moscow players remember the incident. Aiden McGeady who was then playing for the Russian club was in the dressing room when Emery was told his tenure was over. McGeady said: “We played Dynamo Moscow and lost. It’s a derby, it’s not the biggest derby, but it’s still a derby. “The chairman comes in the dressing room and says, ‘Unai, finished!’ Unai was like, ‘I don’t care I don’t care. Whatever.’ “He just walked out. I was like, ‘Has he just been sacked here?’” Emery departed Spartak Moscow and took over as Sevilla manager in January 2013 and led the Spanish side to Europa League titles in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The Spaniard then joined French giants PSG in 2016, leading them to the domestic treble this season.

Aubameyang: “It’s definitely a fresh start”
