Who is Unai Emery? The manager’s way from Lorca Deportiva to Arsenal

Arsenal are set to replace Arsene Wenger with Unai Emery which was a great surprise for many. The leading candidate appeared to be Mikel Arteta, however, Emery retired from PSG becoming Arsenal last-minute shocking candidate. The 46-year-old started out at Real Sociedad, spending most of his time there with the B team. Because of injury Emery started to give up with playing career and received his first chance at management by Lorca Deportivo. His next stay was at Almeria taking them into La Liga’s eight place. Emery's stock continued to rise and Valencia came knocking after finishing sixth in their first season. Emery led them to third place in 2009/10 securing Champions League football. After elimination in the group stage in 2011/12 Emery left Valencia and Spain altogether. Emery moved to Russia where he became manager of Spartak Moscow,  spending there just 6 months before he was sacked. Emery was back in Spain with Sevilla just two months later and they won eight and lost seven of his 19 matches in charge to finish eighth and qualify for the Europa League. And in 2013/14 Emery won the Europa League with Sevilla, beating Benfica in the final and they finished fifth in La Liga too. Emery called time on his Sevilla career after three-and-a-half seasons and was given a new job at Paris Saint-Germain to the next level. Last season PSG won the title losing just three times, but once again they were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16, this time to Real Madrid. After leaving PSG Emery now looks set for the Emirates.
