REVEALED: Why Unai Emery started Lucas Torreira and dropped Matteo Guendouzi against Everton

Lucas Torreira was handed his first start of the Premier League season as he was named in Arsenal line-up to face Everton. The Uruguayan started in the 4-2 Europa League win over FC Vorskla Poltava, but was yet to play his first Premier League game in Arsenal. Unai Emery has explained why he preferred to start with Torreira to face Marco Silva’s side instead of Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka. Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Emery said: "He [Lucas Torreira] is starting today because I think he made a good performance with us, but also Matteo the same. But I decided today to start with Lucas. I’m sure they are going to play with our performance." Despite his limited playing time Torreira managed to impress in substitute cameos and even earned Arsenal’s second away win of the season against Newcastle.
