Ray Wilkins: Sadio Mane’s absence “slaughtered” Liverpool

Sadio Mane has won the PFA Fans' Premier League Player of the Month award for August and September, beating the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Etienne Capoue.

Harry Kane tops the Premier League goalscorers table, but the Senegalese winger missed much of January as he represented his country in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mane, 24, joined the Reds last summer and has been superb for Jurgen Klopp’s team ever since.

Ray Wilkins is convinced that Mane’s absence cost Liverpool a decent shot at the title.

“I think if I’m perfectly honesty losing Sadio Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations absolutely slaughtered them because I think he’s been an absolute breath of fresh air. His work ethic is superb and the fella has been really, really good.”, Wilkins told Sky Sports.
