Rafael Nadal wins his 1000th match at Miami Open

Tennis: Miami Open Rafael Nadal

The Spaniard celebrated his 100th tour level match by winning against the German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The experienced German started well but Nadal turned the tables to prevail 0-6 6-2 6-3. The Spaniard’s comeback secured his 822nd victory. Not only that but  the 30-year-old has joined a special club 1000 consisting of just 11 players who have played at least 1,000 matches. Jimmy Connors is No. 1 with 1535 matches.

“One thousand matches is a lot of matches. Obviously that’s good news because that says I am having a long career,” said Nadal.

“During a lot of years, I heard that I’m going to have a short career, so it’s something important for me.
