“Bayern would like to thank a great player and a man who has played the Bayern way on and off the pitch excellently. Xabi Alonso is one of the greats of world football. He has won everything in his career. He is also an outstanding personality, a gentleman of football.” said Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a short message dedicated to the player.
Xabi Alonso had successful spells with the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. He won the Champions League twice: with Liverpool in 2005 and Real Madrid in 2014.
The Spaniard is also a one-time World Cup winner and a two-time European champion.
