New Arsenal boss Unai Emery sets ambitious target on day one

New Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has insisted that his players must be fearless-and claimed they can catch Manchester City. “That is our objective (to catch City),” the 48-year-old said. “Arsenal is a club with fantastic personality and identity and I believe and the club has shown me that they believe, it is about showing that personality and showing the stature of this football club. “What we want to do is not fear any team neither here in the Premier League or in Europe and our objective is to be among the best and to beat the best. “That is the kind of thing I want to transmit, that desire to be better and I think that will lead us to improve in the Premier League and in Europe. “I believe in the players who are here, the objective is to work together, to work hard with this talent. The target is to be a candidate and to challenge for the title. “It is very important for the club after two years outside the Champions League to work this way, to be the best club, the best team in the Premier League and also in the world.” The Spaniard will have £50m to spend this summer to improve the squad, and can get extra cash for transfers by selling some players. But Emery insisted he would drill the current squad and bring a passion. Emery said: “I’m very demanding of myself, I’m passionate and I really want to transmit that to the people around me –that we can, and must, improve in the future. “We will have time to speak about where we need to improve, we have already touched on that a little bit, we do need to go into more detail but we have got that strong nucleus if you like. “I’m the type of coach who has always worked really hard, not because I do it better than anyone else but because that is what I believe the most important thing is.” The Spaniard also promised to improve his English. “My English is not very good now and I want to make an effort to speak with you, to the supporters, to explain my ideas, to explain my ambitions, to explain that I am very excited about this opportunity.”
