Mourinho become first manager to spend £1 billion on transfers

Inter Milan have accepted an offer from Manchester United

Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho has become the first manager in football to spend £1 billion on transfers.

According to Daily Mail, analysis of the Manchester United manager’s all-time spending shows he has now spent just over £1.1bn in 17 years as a boss.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spent £859m, in a little over half the time.

The only other coach who comes close to their spending is Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti, with Chelsea one of nine clubs he has managed in 22 years, spending £970m gross to date.
