Michael Carrick finds England duty “depressing”

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has told FA not to choose him for Three Lions appearances as he finds playing for England depressing. Carrick made his debut for England in 2001 against Mexico but he hasn’t played for his country nice since November 2015. "I had been in the squad a long time and I'll be honest I was finding it hard going away with England," Carrick told reporters. . "Didn't mind going away with United pre-season for the three weeks and then coming back. "But going away with England was almost depressing in a way, it made me really down. "So I come to the point after South Africa and I thought, 'I can't do that again'. "People were saying to me "pull yourself together and be grateful for it". I understood the position I was in, the privileged position I was in, but I just found it so hard and I couldn't deal with it anymore. "I was depressed at times. I told the FA, 'Look, just please don't pick me'," Carrick added. The Manchester United midfielder has 35 caps in his career.
