Wednesday evening’s Champions League second leg match between Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen ended 0-0.
Diego Simeone’s side did what was necessary to secure the quarter-final stage for the Spanish club for the fourth year in a row.
Bayer Leverkusen started well, as Kevin Volland came close to opening the score with a strike in the fourth minute. As the game went on, both teams defended better and better which suited Atleti’s plan.
Jan Oblak pulled off an important triple save after Jose Maria Gimenez made a defensive mistake. Julian Brandt and Volland (twice) tried to score Bayer’s first, but were denied by the 24-year-old Slovenian.
