The Irish fighter demanded a big introduction from his team. And when the “Notorious” McGregor approached the microphone, first thing he did was… telling a person from the audience to “shut up and carry himself with class”. I will let you read highlights of the rest of his speech without comments.
“We’re here now, a couple of days out. This press conference is more business-like, the way I like it. Sometimes.
“I’m very happy with how my training camp has gone. Everything has gone absolutely amazing.
“We are prepared for 12×3 rounds at pace, trust me on that. I will go forward and smash this man.
“With 8oz gloves he made a big error in my opinion; I don’t see him lasting two rounds. I have the power to end this inside one.
“I’m very happy with the 8oz gloves, keep your hands up, keep your hands down I don’t care, I’ll break through whatever is in front of me. I will outbox this man at his own game.
“I’m going to f*** this boy up, make no mistake. When all is said and done I’m going to feel a little sad. You should have left me where I was, bouncing heads off the canvas,” the Irish said with a smirk on his face.
Floyd Mayweather, in turn, was very concentrated… at least he made noticeable effort to seem like that. His speech started with thanking God for “putting him in that position.” He tried to carry himself with class, didn’t he Conor?
“I want to thank my team, my father, my family, the MGM Grand, Showtime, CBS, and Al Haymon,” the 40-year-old continued.
“It all comes down to two fighters. Everybody can talk about betting and on what is going to happen, but at the end of the day it comes to me and the guy I am competing against.
“I had a tremendous training camp. I’ve been in the game for 21 years and I had to take it seriously. When all is said and done. One thing I know I can do. I can fight; I can take it and I can give it. But for me it is obvious. I’m not taking it, I’m giving it.
“Conor McGregor has had and still has a great career, he’s a stand-up guy,” he expressed his tribute to the opponent.
“There’s going to be blood, sweat and tears, we’re here to give the fans a fight.
“It comes down to me and Conor McGregor displaying our skills and giving the fans what they want to see. It’s about the best fighting the best, I’m the best at what I do and he’s the best at what he does.
While talking about the style he has been fighting with, he mentioned it to be “smart and with IQ”, while the whole world calls simply defensive.
“I’ve faced 47 opponents; they said I have brittle hands or I was a scared guy, but listen, the last time I checked, nobody has walked me down. It’s called smarts, it’s called having the IQ and having patience. From day one everything my dad taught me, I still know today. Every combination that was taught to me, I still know. Everything in boxing that can be done, I’ve done it a thousand times. I was born a fighter and I will die a fighter.
“On August 26 he’s going to bring his best and it’s not going to be easy. Remember Pacquiao had bombs, Canelo had bombs, and Shane Mosely had bombs, but I have a great chin,” Mayweather added taking advantage to the fact that his home audience will appreciate such a perfectly laid out conclusion.
BONUS: Mayweather was not anymore so calm and laid back after the press conference was over. You can watch this small beef with a McGregor fan as a bonus ^_^.
