Danny Blind sacked after Bulgaria defeat

blind sacked as Netherlands coach

Danny Blind has been dismissed as Netherlands national team manager following the 2-0 defeat from Bulgaria, UEFA official website informs.

Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) director Jean-Paul Decossaux commented on their decision to sack the manager halfway through the European qualifiers.

“We have respect for what Danny did for us and for the team during his tenure,” Decossaux told UEFA.

“But because the results unfortunately are disappointing, and as now it looks difficult to qualify for the World Cup in Russia, we feel unfortunately he has to take his leave,” he added.

The manager commented on his dismissal: “We were on the right track. Bulgaria away was an accident in my opinion. I’ve put my all into it. It’s a shame it ends like this,” he remarked.

Danny Blind had been working as Netherlands national team head coach since 2015. His managerial record with the Oranje counts for eight wins, three draws and seven losses.

The Netherlands national team are the fourth in their group for the European qualifiers, with seven points in five games.
