Nike have created more than 70 different styles of boots branded with Cristiano Ronaldo’s name that have sold millions worldwide and resulted in a life contract worth $1billion.
But following rape allegations against Ronaldo, the US sportswear giants appeared to be questioning the long-term deal. Nike admitted that they were deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations.
The Juventus star’s business appeared to be at risk following the first statement from Nike since the allegations were made.
Nike said: 'We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.'
Earlier Ronaldo posted on his Instagram: “They want to promote [themselves] by [using] my name. It’s normal.”
Ronaldo’s lawyers say they will sue Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine, which originally reported the allegations. The magazine wrote that Kathryn Mayorga had claimed Ronaldo raped her in a hotel room in Las Vegas.
She claims that Ronaldo gave her $375,000 payment for agreeing never to go public with the allegations.
