The Gunners have agreed a deal with Lucas Torreira and they hope to sign the player before he travels back to Uruguay following his World Cup exit. The transfer will cost Arsenal £26.5 million.
Speaking after Friday’s loss in Russia he said: "The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me,” he said. "But now I have more time my future will be very clear.
"The important thing is that I’m happy to have been part of this squad and this World Cup, so I thank all the people who accompanied us."
Arsenal wanted him to have a medical before World Cup but Sampdoria player expressed a wish to stay focused on his international duties.
Following a 2-0 defeat by France in the quarter-finals, the midfielder is now free to complete his switch to north London.
