Argentina had no choice but to defeat Colombia in World Cup 2018 qualifying round in South America. Lionel Messi and Co. were struggling in the standings and were even risking not to qualify for the major football tournament. To improve their positions, they had to face their direct rival, Colombia.
The heavy defeat from Brazil days earlier (3-0) was a cool shower for the Albiceleste. Messi started the show with a superb free kick. He fired the free kick home, curling the ball over the wall as it bounced in off the inside of the right post. A technically stunning goal.
The Barcelona man was in leading roles again for the second goal for his team. He showcased his great technique and produced a beautiful lofted cross into the box, where Lucas Pratto managed to convert it into the goal.
And the last say of the evening was that of Angel Di Maria. He received an assist from Lionel Messi and had nothing to do but to tap the ball into an empty net, making the score 3-0.
Argentina surpassed Colombia in the standings thanks to this victory. This was the first victory in last 5 games for the team.
