Adam Johnson to find out today if he can appeal against his conviction

The ex-Sunderland players will learn today if he is to be granted permission to appeal against his conviction for child sex offences.

The 29-year-old, who was jailed for six years, looks to shorten his sentence.

It appeared to the trial that Johnson kissed ant touched sexually an underage Sunderland fan girl in his Range Rover somewhere in County Durham.

Johnson had admitted kissing the girl, but denied any other intimate contact.

Johnson’s lawyer Eleanor Laws had this to say: When one looks at the judge’s sentencing remarks he was clearly highly influenced by the fact that the applicant was a famous and successful footballer and in fact counted that against him.
